(554) Mechanical Fitter (03M)
Receives work direction from supervisor, discusses and obtains spares and materials and proceeds to work location. Services, maintains, locate and rectifies faults on diesel engines, pumps, valves, blowers, lines, motors, etc. at assigned location. Assists in/overhauls turbines, boilers, pumps, valves, diesel engines, compressors and other similar mechanical equipment. Includes dismantling, repairing, reassembling and testing such equipment. Retouches heat exchangers, dates stamps, etc, and conducts pressure testing. Assists in manufacturing parts for equipment under repair. Includes marking, drilling and machining in the workshop as necessary. Maintains appropriate records of materials/spares used of completed work. Repair and maintains a variety of appliances, such as domestic gas installation, saw mill machinery, sewage pumps, laundry machines, portable air compressors, etc. Observes strict compliance with safety rules and regulations of the job and the area in which he is working. Attends group safety meeting and advises his supervisor about the defect of safety equipment to take the necessary remedial action. Keeps good housekeeping of the work area and ensures that tools and equipment are properly used and stored.
