(537) Shift Supervisor

Role Summary : Role holders at this level have overall responsibility for operational shift activities conducted in an allocated work area. Their key contributions centre on achieving and maintaining optimum production levels through supervising Panel Operator and field staff involved in monitoring and controlling equipment and process flows, ensuring at all times that safety issues are paramount. Key Accountabilities- 1. Planning & Supervision of Shift Activities Plan, priorities, allocate and supervise the activities of subordinate staff in allocated area to ensure operational targets are met through the optimization of production processes and cost-effective operations. 2. Budget Input: Assist in the preparation of departmental budget through providing inputs, ensuring that adequate has been made for the funding of all planned activities in allocated area. 3.Maintenance Planning/Co-ordination Participate in day-to-day maintenance planning and co-ordinate all activities to ensure equipment is in optimum operating condition and that downtime is kept to a minimum. 4. Continuity & Compliance Facilitate work continuity and procedural compliance through authorizing works, logging of shift activities, ensuring availability of cost-effective levels of consumables and providing shift handover briefings. 5.Management Reporting: Prepare regular and ad hoc line reports on issues setting out details of progress, incidents, initiatives taken and recommending ways forward. Levels of : a) Problem Solving : Deals with more complex issues and problems in relation to process operations. b) Decision Making : Has considerable autonomy over deciding on work scheduling and planning short-term work programs, with results being reviewed by management. c) Supervision : These roles are subject to supervision, direction and regular post-action review. They, in turn, will supervise assigned operator staff on shifts, both operationally and administratively and where appropriate through team leaders. Desired Candidate Profile Knowledge and Skills : Substantial knowledge of all operational aspects of production equipment and control systems developed through operator and team leadership roles and formal training programmes. An analytical approach is necessary to developing possible options for resolution of problems. A high order of communication skills is demanded, as is the ability to work under pressure, often in isolation. Role holders will also be expected to show development potential in the areas of planning and organising, supervision, technical report writing and possess well developed PC and software skills. Education and Experience : High School graduate and successful completion of the National Certificate (NC). A minimum of 10 years operator experience in the oil and gas sector, exclusive of any study time taken to upgrade qualifications to NC level. This is also the fast-track entry level for Engineering graduates and holders of Higher National Diplomas. They will be required to have completed 5 years operational experience, including the possession of unit-specific knowledge, to meet the minimum requirements for entry to this level.
